Meet Your Tutor
After graduating from The London College of Printing in 1996 with a degree in Graphics & Media, I worked for a design agency for two years before answering the call of teaching.
In 1998 I trained as a teacher at Brighton University and graduated with my PGCE in Secondary Art & Design in 1999. I have been teaching ever since!
I started Welcome to the Drawing Room in 2012 with the aim of bringing accessible and relaxed art classes to the local area, where like-minded people can meet up and just enjoy being creative without the pressure of formal critiques or exams.
Woldingham Village was my home whilst growing up - so it was the perfect choice when deciding on a location. The Village Club welcomed the group in January 2013 at which point the Wednesday morning watercolour session was added. After many requests from students, October 2013 saw the introduction of the 'Just Drawing' class (not currently available).
In 2014 I became a Professional Associate member with the SAA (an on-line art and craft supplier and general champion of all things creative). In order to meet a growing demand, 2016 saw a further watercolour class added on Wednesday afternoons. 2016 also gave me the opportunity to exhibit some of my paintings at Caterham Galleries. This spurred me on to create a sister website TraceyBengeyfieldArt.com where I sell both original artwork, prints, cards and gifts to a wider audience.
in 2018 I started designing and making a range of home accessories which feature printed images of my work. I was also thrilled to hold my first open studio event in conjunction with the Surrey Artists' Open Studios.
I love teaching, learning and creating. Everyday offers a new opportunity to do all three! I hope that through my classes you too will enjoy learning and creating in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. I believe that even if you find drawing and painting challenging you will improve within a supportive environment just by enjoying the process of creating.
I look forwards to meeting you!
